Head Organizer, Greater Los Angeles
William was born in Taipei, raised in Orange County (CA), and was exposed to different cultures and ideas at a very young age. Through his parents' trading company that distributes high-end faucets around the world, William witnessed first hand the opportunities and the challenges of what it takes to run a profitable international business.
Like many in his shoes, William wanted to break out on his own and opted to move far away from home for college! He studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) where he majored in computer science. There he also served as Newsletter Chair for its Taiwanese American Student Club (TASC) that educate others about American Taiwanese culture and history.
After graduating in 1997, William began his career at NEC as a sales programmer/analyst for its Computer Monitor & Plasma TV division in Chicago. He went on to obtain his masters degree in information systems at Depaul University in 2001 and later relocated to NEC America's corporate headquarters in Sacramento. There he expanded his business network and also met friends from the ORIENTED Bay Area chapter.
William moved back to Southern California in 2003 where he continued working in the data analysis & business intelligence space. He worked in a variety of businesses and industries, such as Skyworks Solution in the semiconductor industry, Mitochon System focusing on electronic medical records (EMR) in the healthcare industry, and many others.
William likes to volunteer his time to give back to the community and is actively involved with non-profit groups such as project-by-project (pbp) and the Young General Asian Professionals (YGAP) where he serves as their Webmaster & Director of Event Planning. As of April 2012, he is also the Head Organizer of ORIENTED Los Angeles!
William also enjoys traveling, playing baseball with his team, the Outlaws, as their right fielder, and running marathons (earned SF Marathon Medals twice). He also enjoys swing & blues dancing, hiking, and catching the latest movie with friends. In his private time, William finds great joy in script and song writing, reading of historical novels, and has a great passion for art and for music of many kinds.
Clearly, there is never a dull moment in William's life! He is someone you will definitely want to meet, so don't hesitate to introduce yourself to him at the next ORIENTED Happy Hour!
