Tracey Lam
Organizer, Portland

In 1980, just months after Tracey and her family emigrated to Portland from Hong Kong, Mount St. Helens erupted. As neighbors emerged to check on each other and help clean up the ashes, Tracey learned the value of a community. Today, she is happy to support organizations, such as ORIENTED, that help bring people together.

Tracey graduated from Boston University with a
degree in journalism. She minored in Asian studies and spent six months studying Mandarin in China while interning at ABC News in Beijing. Working as a Western journalist in a Communist country gave Tracey a unique appreciation for the term "freedom of the press."

Currently, Tracey is a news producer for KATU-TV in Portland. In December of 2006, she wrapped up a 2-year stint as the President of the Portland Chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association. In 2005, she was nominated for an Emmy by the National Academy for Television Arts & Sciences in the category of Best Newscast. When asked how she felt about her chances of winning, she said with a smirk, "it's just an honor to be nominated."

In her spare time, Tracey is exploring her new favorite winter sport of snowshoeing, plays tennis, does yoga, reads, and goes wine tasting. She has also been known to spend time at the spa.
