Didde Bjerglund Former Organizer, Beijing
After moving around Denmark for a few years, her family moved to Surrey, England in 1987 where Didde explored the world of ballet class, tap class and aerobics. Later when her family moved to Oxfordshire, she gave up dancing and spent the next couple of years entertaining herself by playing the violin, participating in the school orchestra, singing and touring with Oxford Girls Choir and completing her Bronze & Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. After attending boarding school in Denmark for a year, she returned to England to attend St. Clare's College, Oxford where she studied the International Baccalaureate, while working part time as a residential real estate agent to help fund her student life. Whilst there she set up a Homeless Support Group and negotiated with her college to help with food runs for the homeless, fundraising events and getting media attention for a worthy cause. She also participated in International Relations discussion group and gave a presentation on Korea to a large group of students. She loves kids and taught a class of Japanese children and some Chinese children privately on a weekly basis. To gain experience in business, she joined Young Enterprise and as the only female "executive" in the "company" tried to maintain some structure by choosing a product to sell, delegating jobs, and taking minutes. With all this going on, she still found time to keep fit by swimming and rowing, though as the weather grew colder, so did her passion for getting up at 6 in the weekends to practice. After attending 8 schools and moving house over 10 times, she thought life would be stable for at least 4 years when she was accepted into Durham University to study Chinese & Management studies. Out of 14 mixed colleges she was placed in the only all girls’ college, however she ended up enjoying her time there in the quiet little town, getting to know real student life, and singing in the choir. She was also the social secretary for the Chinese society. In 2004, Didde came to China on a year abroad to study Chinese at Renmin University. Moving to China was difficult, and in the beginning, she wanted to return to England, yet her parents pleaded with her to stay. (Ironically, now they are pleading with her to come back to Europe...) Whilst 'studying' at Renmin University, Didde was sure there was more to life than Haidian District, so she ventured over to Chaoyang District where she discovered ORIENTED. Excited by the people she met at these events, she joined the team in February 2005. Since then she has attended almost all the ORIENTED events and also regularly participates in EuroCham, BritCham, AustCham, Swedish and Danish Chamber events. Didde is currently working as an Associate for the Savills Property Services Commercial team, as a tenant representative, specialising in helping foreign companies, renew, expand or relocate their offices here in Beijing.
