Carole Bird Co-Head Organizer, Hong Kong
Wanting to live in a small town environment close to the ski slopes, Carole attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where she continued her fascination with other cultures by majoring in International Relations and spending semesters in France and Russia. By graduation, she had spent enough time in Maine, and it was time to move to the Big Apple where she worked at both Accenture (with consulting gigs in New Jersey and Puerto Rico) and at the Discovery Channel. Feeling the travel bug again, Carole moved to Hong Kong and started a second stint with Accenture focusing on the media and telecom industries in Hong Kong and Taiwan. While working on a project in Taipei, Carole realized the importance of trying to learn Mandarin. Thus, she decided to spend six weeks in Beijing studying the language before heading to business school at NYU's Stern School of Business and was determined to return to Asia after earning her MBA. Overwhelmed by being a full-time student again, Carole had little time to focus on Mandarin, but she was able to spend her final semester on an exchange at Tsinghua University in Beijing. This was a great experience to learn with Chinese students and to get a sense of the current business environment in China. After attending a few ORIENTED Happy Hours in Beijing, Carole decided to get involved in bringing that same energy to Hong Kong with the re-launch of the ORIENTED Happy Hours there. A number of months after returning to Hong Kong, Carole decided to start her own company, Compass Consulting. Carole focuses on project-based work, providing strategic, management, and marketing consulting to companies, mainly in the telecom and technology industry.
