About Sophie and Amethyst
Sophie has been working in the sports fashion industry. She just finished her MBA in Oregon, U.S. and moved to Beijing last year. She is now working in the Supply Chain area at Dongxiang Group (also known as Kappa). Her career interests are integrated with her personal interests, as she loves sports activities and fashion. Originally from Guangdong Province in South China, Sophie speaks ChaoShan dialect, Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. She is very excited to explore more about Beijing and to expand her networks through the platform of ORIENTED!
Amethyst grew up in the Philippines as a 5th generation Chinese with roots in Xiamen. She speaks Tagalog, English, Mingnanhua, and Spanish. Amethyst started a successful flower distribution business in Manila, completed her marketing degree, and then worked for the United Nations where she was involved with international conferences, project evaluation, and donor management. She later worked for the Commercial Section of the Mexican Embassy before moving to Beijing where, in 2008, she co-founded Next Step China, LLC with Derek Capo. Next Step China offers a comprehensive range of programs in China for students, professionals and government officials. Joining ORIENTED Beijing as Co-Head Organizer gives Amethyst the perfect opportunity to meet new people and build her professional contacts. She hopes to meet like-minded people (possibly you) at the next Beijing ORIENTED Happy Hour!
